Perry Romanowski, Program Director
Instructor: Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry
Perry Romanowski has been formulating cosmetic products and inventing solutions to solve consumer problems since the early 1990s. After an illustrious career with Alberto Culver, Perry has transitioned from master formulator to master educator. He has written and edited numerous articles and books, taught continuing education classes for industry scientists, and developed successful websites. His book, Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry, Third Edition, is an industry standard text for chemists new to cosmetic formulation.
Judi Beerling
Instructor: Developing Natural Cosmetic Formulations
Prior to joining Organic Monitor as their Technical Research Manager, Judi Beerling worked for more than 30 years at Quest International in the UK, holding various management and technical roles within the product applications field, where she specialized as a product formulation expert. Judi holds an MBA from Open University Business School and is a Chartered Chemist. She has also been a visiting associate lecturer at the University of the Arts (London College of Fashion) on the Cosmetic Science BSc degree course. She has also been active in a number of industry associations for over 20 years, including the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) and the UK Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS).
Art Georgalas
Instructor: Developing Natural Cosmetic Formulations
Art Georgalas' career spans more than forty years in personal care product formulation and applied research at a number of leading cosmetic manufacturers, including Revlon, Charles of the Ritz, and LaMaur/DowBrands. Art has contributed articles to various trade journals, including Cosmetics & Toiletries magazine, has presented at many technical and trade conferences and is active in the SCC, NYSCC and IFSCC committees. A graduate of City College of New York (CCNY), he also completed the Masters program (M.S. degree) in Pharmaceutics with a specialty in Cosmetic Science at the Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences of Long Island University. As an adjunct professor, Art instructs classes in product development and applied colloid chemistry at Fairleigh Dickinson University and he has also recently established Georgalas Endeavors, LLC, to bring his experience and expertise to clients with personal care projects.
Steven Abbott, PhD
Instructor: Optimization for Cosmetics
Professor Steven Abbott is an independent working scientist who loves to develop technical software that allows himself and others to solve real world chemical formulation problems in a wide range of technical areas including cosmetics. Recently he has worked on software to help formulate for skin delivery and surfactant optimization. Abbott has a PhD in chemistry from Harvard and Oxford universities and worked for 30 years in the chemical formulation industries. He is Visiting Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering in U. Leeds, UK.
Zoe Diana Draelos, MD
Instructor: Physiology of the Skin
Zoe Diana Draelos, MD, is a practicing board-certified dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, for which she also serves as vice president, as well as a consulting professor of Dermatology at Duke University with a research interest in cosmetics, toiletries, and biologically active skin medications. She is founder of Dermatology Consulting Services, which provides education, develops formulations, and conducts clinical studies in association with industry. Dr. Draelos, a former Rhodes Scholar, authored the textbooks Cosmetics in Dermatology and Hair Cosmetics. She also functions as editor in chief of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, and received a lifetime achievement award from Health Beauty America for her research, as well as the 2010 Albert Kligman Innovation Award.
